are open between story road and tully road so nothing will impact the commute because of police activity this morning. we shot this video of what was taking place after midnight. officers were walking open -- on southbound 101 looking for evidence losing flashlights it is usual and we have reports of what may have led the officers to do this we have not received information from the c.h.p. and they have yet to return phone calls. the only information put out by the c.h.p. that southbound 101 was closed because of police activity and the road re-opened after 1:00 o'clock and as we get new information we will pass it along. reporting in san jose for abc7 news. as the sunrises over the bay the light show on the bay bridge will fade away and will not be seen again for him a year. ceremonies this morning will mark the removal of the lights. amy hollyfield is along the

embarcadero with more on why the lights are going away. >> it will be tough to say goodbye and we will have a last hook at them. we are enjoying watching them putting on the performance. we do not have to say goodbye we will say "see you later." the 25,000 l.e.d. lights have lit up the bay bridge for the last two years. it has been quite a show. there will be a proper send off this morning and there will be a party here this morning as the lights dim and they will have a string quartet as the sun tries and the lights go out. it will be pretty special. they have enjoyed a lost love in san francisco the past two years >> spectacular spectacle. the gonna get as lot of good press and the bay bridge is the for gotten younger isistory but

two-alarm fire on tuesday night. it was boarded up after the flames were put out which meant someone had to break in to start the fire. the building has been occupied by homeless since being abandoned by the school district. >> a san francisco man is charged with a shocking act of cruelty against a helpless puppy. police say he let a friend's poet die rather than caring for it as he programmed. here are the details. >> the puppy named penny is like these was found dead stuffed in a shoebox with a toy and folded towel along the avenue in pacifica last january. >> way the dog was placed like that, we did not scan the dog for a chip that traced back to the owner. >> the owner moved to high and left the dog in the care of a friend. tests confirm cat -- the caus of death was store vacation.

and concussion. on tuesday he was with crews trimming trees in hilltop park when a tree unexpectedly came crashing down. a fire department spokesman said that he tried to get out of the way but was trapped under the branches and hit in the back. watkins is expected to recover. he is lucky. >> we have seen accidents some fatal, because of trees that fell on workers. >> tree trimming is dangerous work whether you are in the tree or on the ground. the agency is investigating the incident to determine if safety procedures were being followed. if not, rec and park could be cited. >> citations come with monetary penalties. >> osha has six months to complete the investigation. rec and park has issue add statement saying watkins is a long time dedicated members of the team and we wish him a speedy recovery. he has worked for the department since at least 2004 when we interviewed him for a story on

abc7. the labor dispute could be over at west coast ports but the disruption continues. shipping companies have started to re-route deliveries through the panama canal, the longer route doubles the 14 day trip from asia to the united states. the "wall street journal" says it will take three to six months for ports to return to normal. a survey found that 65 percent of shippers land for ship less cargo to the west coast through 2016. >> a bay area woman is desperate to get her dogs back after they were stolen from her car in southern california. sandy roberts was there for a half marathon and left the car in a public garage with the two docks in the front seat. when she returns after the race the dogs and her purse wallet and phone were missing. one of the dogs is her service dog, lola, who hopes her coast with post-traumatic stress
